The footballer at the centre of the gagging order over his affair with Big Brother star Imogen Thomas was named today in the House of Commons as Ryan Giggs.

MP John Hemmings used parliamentary privilege to name the star saying 75,000 people had already outed him on Twitter adding it would be 'impracticable' to prison everyone on the website who had named him. Speaker John Bercow leapt out of his seat after Mr Hemmings said the footballer's name to try and protect his identity.

The 'Special One' turns down City's millions

Mourinho has consistently admitted that his future belongs in England and the Premier League, and the Portuguese has been linked with City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Man United.

However, Mourinho has three years left on his Real contract and is adamant he will remain in Madrid until then.

"My future is Real Madrid," said the former Chelsea coach. "I have a contract and it looks like the club is happy with my work.

"My future will be England, yes, for sure, but after Real. I have a contract for three more seasons and I would like to reach the 600-mark with Real Madrid."

This, though, has not stopped the self-proclaimed 'Special One' from being linked to City, with under-fire Mancini expected to be given the boot at the end of the season unless he wins some silverware.

"Me to Manchester City? That's impossible," Mourinho said.

Mourinho has also laughed off suggestions AC Milan could sign Cristiano Ronaldo, after the Serie A club's owner, Silvio Berlusconi, admitted his liking for the Portugal international.

"I'm not saying it's impossible, because in football you never know, and Berlusconi can make a crazy offer," he said.

"But it must be a true madness because Real Madrid don't want to sell Cristiano Ronaldo."

Mourinho was speaking after his Real Madrid team beat Tottenham Hotspur 1-0 at White Hart Lane last night, 5-0 on aggregate, to set up a mouthwatering semi-final against Barcelona.

Essex glamour model Jodie Marsh has hit out at the reality show for giving the county a bad name, saying the stars of the show are the 'worst possible examples of people in Essex'.

Jodie, who got married at Kirk Norcross's Brentwood nightclub The Sugar Hut, said: 'I and all my friends are highly ashamed of it and fairly embarrassed to say we are from Essex now, thanks to the show.

'It is embarrassing and the people on that show are probably the worst possible examples of people from Essex. It's just embarrassing.

'I think the people are just making us look stupid.

'I think it's great entertainment but I think overall it's an embarrassment to Essex.'

Hot spell due to come to a chilly halt

Parts of the country have rivalled Mediterranean holiday destinations as temperatures soared to 22C (71.6F). About 60,000 people headed to Bournemouth beach at the weekend and hotels in the holiday town reported a late surge in bookings after the fine weather was predicted.

Supermarkets reported huge sales of burgers, sausages, beers and ice cream as early barbecues were held.

And garden centres saw a surge in outdoor furniture sales, while a Tesco spokesman said that it was the earliest ever demand for barbecue equipment. But forecasters warned that the thermometer will take a dip this week

‘Monday will be nice and sunny in the south-east for most of the day but it will become a bit more unsettled later on,’ said Rebekah Sherwin, from the Met Office. ‘It is looking like it will be more unsettled and closer to the normal temperatures towards the end of the week.’

William Hill is offering odds of 33/1 that the hottest day of 2011 will come in April. It has also trimmed the odds of a hosepipe ban in the No.10 Downing Street garden from 16/1 to 14/1.

Moyles wins court battle

Radio 1 DJ Chris Moyles is celebrating today after defeating plans for a modern housing development near his £1.8 million north London home.

The breakfast show host argued the "garden grab" would harm wildlife, destroy trees, disturb his "peace and privacy" and encourage burglars.

The plans involved building a modern house in the grounds of a Grade II-listed Victorian villa in Archway Road, Highgate. A Forties extension to the main house, which is divided into flats, was to be replaced with an extension, and the terrace extended to include another four self-contained flats.

This week Haringey council officers claimed the proposal, by site owner Loromah Estates, would be the best way of restoring the historic house. But councillors on the planning committee threw it out after an impassioned plea from the DJ.

Moyles, 37, said: "Not only do I object to the loss of landscape and wildlife habitat, as a figure in the public eye I am particularly concerned such a development could have a detrimental effect on the privacy and peace I hugely value and which was intrinsic in my decision to move to Highgate." He said the loss of tree cover could make homes more vulnerable to burglars.

It's amazing what you see sometimes!

While on a shoot in East London last week, our photographers spotted this bizarre scene, a man, wrapped in just a bed sheet, waiting for a bus!

But that's not all, he had obviously either escaped or checked himself out of the local hospital as he still had ECG pads stuck to his chest, his NHS ID wrist band on and tubes hanging from his body.

He didn't have any money so he begged the driver to let him on for free before sittings amongst other rush hour commuters as if nothing strange was going on..

Maybe he realised he's left the cooker on???!!

Christopher Nolan's science fiction thriller Inception has won the top prize at the 2011 Jameson Empire Awards.

The Leonardo DiCaprio-led blockbuster scooped the 'Best Film' trophy ahead of fellow nominees Kick-Ass, The Social Network, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and The King's Speech.

Taking home two awards apiece were Kick-Ass ('Best British Film' and 'Best Newcomer' for Chloe Moretz), The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo ('Best Actress' for Noomi Rapace and 'Best Thriller') and Edgar Wright (Best Director for Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World and a special 'Inspiration' prize).

Colin Firth appeared in person to collect the 'Best Actor' prize for The King's Speech, joking that he had now shifted his allegiance to his upcoming film Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

"I was going to thank my friends at the King's Speech table, but apparently there is no King's Speech table so to hell with them," he quipped. "I'm with my new friends at the Tinker, Tailor table, which I haven't seen yet but I'm sure it will be a masterpiece."

Other winners, voted for by readers of Empire magazine, included Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy), The Last Exorcism ('Best Horror') and Four Lions ('Best Comedy').

Special awards were handed out to Gary Oldman and Keira Knightley, who won 'Empire Icon' and 'Empire Hero' awards respectively.

More details about Halliwell's unknown victim released

Murder detectives have revealed bones found at an isolated spot in Gloucestershire yesterday belong to a woman aged between 23 and 30.

They have yet to confirm her identity, alhough police believe they belong to someone who moved to the area from outside Wiltshire.

Detective Superintendent Steve Fulcher, who is leading the investigation, said: 'Bones recovered from the site at Eastleach in Gloucestershire are believed to be that of a young woman with an estimated age of between 23 and 30 years.

'It has been indicated to me that this young woman was taken from the Swindon area between 2003 and 2005.

'The remains will now be subject of further forensic laboratory tests and a post-mortem examination. The police search at the site is expected to continue for the time being.'

Burglar charged over Madonna break-in

A Polish man has been remanded in custody for the alleged burglary of Madonna's £10million London home after reportedly smashing through a window in the early hours.

Grzegorz Matlok, 29, appeared before Westminster Magistrates Court after he was charged yesterday, after being allegedly wrestled to the ground by the singer's bodyguards.

He was arrested on suspicion of burglary at around 5.30am on Saturday morning and taken to a West London police station.

The incident is sure to raise questions about Madonna's security arrangements, coming just six months after a man was found outside her New York apartment carrying two knives.

Former Yeates suspect sells flat

THE landlord cleared of murdering his neighbour Jo Yeates is selling his flat to make a fresh start.

Chris Jefferies, 66, failed to get the £245,000 asking price but is relieved it is under offer.

The ex-public school teacher, formally cleared of any link to Jo’s killing, has not been to his home in Clifton, Bristol, since his arrest in December.

He is believed to have been staying with friends. Close pal Geoffrey Hardyman said: “He needs time to recover from his traumatic experience and make a fresh start.” Mr Jefferies may sue police for wrongful arrest.

Mr Jefferies still owns the basement flat formerly rented by landscape architect Jo, 25, and boyfriend Greg Reardon. Her frozen, strangled body was found in a country lane on Christmas Day.

Neighbour Dutch engineer Vincent Tabak, 32, has been charged with her murder.

Britains oldest working cooker!?

KEEN cook Avice Hartshorn bought her brand new Belling electric cooker in 1952 - and 58 years later the cooker is still in perfect working order and has never needed any repairs.

Hospital worker Avice, of Harlow, Essex, only ever had TWO cookers until she died recently aged 91.

Her daughter, Avron, 69 - who inherited the Belling - said: "It still works brilliantly. But I didn't realise it was guzzling so much electricity."

The cooker costs £180 a year in electricity. An energy efficient one would cut a third off that.

Britain's oldest Dad

Doting Dennis Ealam has fathered his third child in as many years at the age of SEVENTY-SEVEN.

The retired lorry driver, who will be 78 in October, already has toddlers Johnathon, two, and Jessie, 14 months, to care for.

His wife Cora, who at 36 is FORTY-ONE years younger than her husband, will be giving birth to their third child in May – despite having been on the PILL.

It means Dennis is on course to enjoy his 80th birthday party with three of his children under six.

Not bad for someone who survived a brain tumour and divorced his previous wife after 47 years because, as he recalled, the passion “fizzled out”.

Dennis’s eldest son Andrew, 49, who has three children, is amazed that he will have a new baby sister a week after he turns FIFTY.

He said: “It’s crazy. I’m still struggling to believe my dad had me half a century ago and has another child on the way.”

The Ealams’ story emerged a week after The People told how Britain’s oldest dad of twins Richard Roden, 72, had become a father again after his wife Lisa, 26, gave birth to his 13th child, daughter Madison.

Last night Dennis put his extended fatherhood down to giving up cigs and booze.

But eight years on, having blown all that money, Michael Carroll is practising for a return to his old job as a binman.

This bunch may look like oddballs but they have made it to the quarter finals of the nation's top TV show. And don't forget last year's shock star was the unlikely Susan Boyle.

Our exclusive snaps show the wannabes arriving to try out for the live semis.

Among them, green-faced witches, a family of monks, an 18th century drag queen and a leprechaun. Our photogrpher, who gatecrashed the fun, also spotted a pig, Michael Jackson lookalikes and raging patriot.

And just when we thought it could not get any freakier, up popped the Cheeky Girls wearing clothes. Our BGT source said: "This year's definitely got some of the most colourful characters. It's going to be a cracker." The hopefuls performed for judges Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden and Piers Morgan at London's Vaudeville Theatre on Friday.

We won't spoil it by revealing who made it through. But we will report Simon confirmed what Brits have known since their appearance on 2002's Popstars - the Cheeky Girls DON'T have Talent. The Touch My Bum singers were axed after their belly-dancing flopped.

Our source said: "They were disappointed but you can see the level of competition they were up against."

Our vote for the most entertaining act of the day goes to the traffic warden who ticketed all four contestants' coaches, Ant and Dec's people carrier but left alone Simon's car! BGT fans can see who made it when the TV show returns in April.

Dancing on Ice star Gary Lucy has defended acid-tongued judge Jason Gardiner. The Australian choreographer sparked a flurry of complaints about his comments last week.

He had to issue an apology after he compared Sharron Davies's outfit to "faecal matter."
Lucy has given his backing to the judge, insisting that his comments help the contestants to improve.

He told us: "Jason has been great to me. "He is an expert in his field and I take all of his comments on board. I value and listen to his opinion." He added: "I would rather have a judge criticise me so that I can get better, over one who tells me I'm great when I'm not. "I am out of my comfort zone doing this show, just like the other celebrities, so I listen to what Jason has to say."

Bedroom stalker - The neighbour from hell!

Terrified mum Christine Body has told how a hulking stalker secretly broke into her home more than FIFTEEN times and leered over her and her daughter as they slept.

Next-door neighbour Michael Coombes, 41, crept in after stealing Christine's house key and making a copy. In a year-long stalking campaign, the 19-stone weirdo also stole Christine's jewellery and dirty laundry as bizarre souvenirs.

But he was finally caught when suspicious Christine's boyfriend lay in wait and ambushed him as he sneaked in yet again. Now, as the sick stalker begins a three-year jail sentence, Christine, 39, has spoken about the 12-month ordeal that has left her frightened to live in her home.

The mum of two said: "I have always been a really independent person, but knowing that Coombes has been in my house has really shaken me. Horrible "I feel like he's violated me and I keep getting these horrible images of him rifling through my things. I feel like I have to move to get away from what's happened." Christine noticed Coombes staring at her as soon as she moved into the terrace house in Newmarket, Suffolk, 18 months ago with daughters Amber Rose, 15, and Ferne, 13. He then began using feeble excuses to call round. She said: "He came to borrow a spoonful of coffee and I thought that was odd because there's a shop at the end of the road. Later in the week he returned with a whole jar of coffee with a rose attached to it. "I thought he was harmless so I didn't take it seriously."

But Coombes' developing obsession was about to take a more sinister turn. Showering after a gym session one day, Christine looked through her open bathroom window and saw her neighbour watching hungrily from his bedroom in the rear extension opposite. She said: "I screamed and he backed away from his window. I had no idea how long he'd been watching. At first I was furious and the thought of him leering made me feel sick. "But when I calmed down I convinced myself it could have just been a mistake."

Soon after, Christine began to notice that cash and jewellery were going missing. She said: "There were times I'd walk into my bedroom, and it just didn't feel right. "It felt as though someone had been in there and gone through all of my belongings. Towels I'd folded in the laundry basket would be crumpled or on the floor and other things would be missing. "I felt I was going mad but I couldn't be sure that I hadn't misplaced the things and I didn't want to worry anyone by mentioning it."

Frightening But Christine's suspicions were confirmed in the most frightening way possible when Amber Rose woke up to find their neighbour standing over her bed. Christine said: "Amber Rose was off school sick that day, and she was half-asleep when she saw Coombes creep into her room.

"He moved to her bed and when he saw she was awake, started asking her if she'd lost an iPod. Amber was terrified and screamed for him to get out, until eventually he did. She then called me sobbing and hysterical and told me what had happened, so I called the police and rushed home from work.

"The whole thing was horrifying. Imagine how it felt for a 15-year-old to wake up and see a 19-stone skinhead in her bedroom. "Amber refused to be alone for a long time after that and I had to call the girls' dad a few times to take Ferne because the fear of being in our house made her physically sick." Police found no evidence of an illegal break-in and told Christine she must have left the house unlocked.

But their reassurances did nothing to calm Christine. She said: "Things just kept going missing, especially underwear, and a couple of times I found knickers that I knew hadn't been worn in the laundry basket. "I asked the girls if they'd been messing around in my room but they insisted they hadn't." Spooked by the bizarre movements, Christine decided to set a trap by laying a folded towel in the wash basket before going to work at a property rental company.

To her horror, when she returned she found the towel crumpled among dirty washing. But without proof of a break-in, she knew police would not believe her. So boyfriend Derek Sinfield, 41, offered to lay in wait downstairs. And at 7am the next morning Derek was woken by Coombes standing in the doorway of the front room. He bravely held the burly stalker in a headlock until police arrived.

Christine said: "It was such a relief when I heard he had been caught and that I wasn't going crazy after all. But my blood ran cold when the police told me what he had been doing in our house." Coombes confessed he had pinched a door key that Christine had left for Amber Rose under a wheelie-bin and had made a copy.

Sick He had entered the house 15 times, stealing the family's belongings and watching them in secret. She said: "The police said that Michael was obsessed with me and had used the key to come and go when he pleased. "It makes me sick to think about it.

Things went missing overnight as well so he must have been there when the girls and I were asleep, watching us. "I dread to think what he could have done if he had wanted to." Twisted Coombes admitted four counts of burglary and one of harassment at Ipswich Crown Court in November.

He was jailed for three years and banned from ever contacting Christine again.

Now the distraught mum is hoping to rebuild her life far from the house that is tainted by his intrusions. She said: "I can't help being scared that one day I'll come home and he'll be waiting for me in my garden. "I'm much more paranoid now than I ever was before, and I panic if I think I haven't locked the doors.

"But I'm hoping that if we can move house and start again, eventually things will go back to normal and I'll be able to forget Michael Coombes ever existed."

Mills urges "send your second hand legs to Haiti"!

Amputee Heather Mills is doing her bit for Haiti by sending thousands of artificial limbs to the disaster hit country.

The Red Cross announced yesterday that thousands of patients have had amputations after the Caribbean island was devastated by a massive earthquake. And in a TV interview this morning Mucca appealed for people to send her their spare false limbs and crutches.

She asked: "Can anyone contact HeatherMills.org to donate second-hand limbs, wheelchairs, and crutches? "We're taking tons of them out to Haiti for our recycling limbs campaign. "We've got thousands and thousands of amputees. That's really important."

The 42-year-old ex-model is currently appearing on hit ITV show Dancing On Ice. This morning she said the training for the British show was "20 billion times harder" than her appearance on a US dance series.
Her dance partner Matt Evers said he and Mills were "reinventing the wheel" with their routines and training.

After the recent failed coup against Brown, Lord Mandelson won his strategic battle to fight the election campaign on New Labour's territory of aspiration rather than as another front in Old Labour's failed class war.

In the circumstances, Brown had no alternative but to agree. Yet this is the man whose entire political persona rests upon constraining, punishing and extorting from the middle classes.

Loloahi Tapui pleads guilty at court

The Tongan housekeeper who was illegally employed by the Attorney General today admitting using a fake British visa for more than two years.

Loloahi Tapui, an illegal immigrant who was housekeeper for Baroness Scotland, pleaded guilty to possessing a false document at Southwark Crown Court.

The charge relates to a Tongan passport with a counterfeit UK visa stamp. The 27-year-old admitted using the visa from June 2006 until September last year.

But she denied a further charge of fraud, rejecting the allegation that she used the counterfeit document to establish facts about herself and earn money as a cleaner.

She's already tried her hand at ballroom dancing across the pond, and now Heather Mills is putting her best foot forward by stepping on to the ice for a spot of skating.

Heather, who turns 42 this week, was spotted carrying her false limb as she headed into rehearsals for the show - however, she admitted that the leg has held her back.
She said: 'its ankle doesn't band and I fall 50 per cent of the time.'

Judge Nicky Slater has already expressed his concern as to whether Heather will be able to perform well after seeing her in rehearsals.

Benefits 'Vulture' family from Essex

A father and his daughter raked in more than £250,000 in benefits by claiming for non-existent handicapped kids, a court was told.

Keith Taylor, 56, gave photographers the V-sign as he turned up for a hearing with his 33-yearold daughter Donna Connolly. The pair are also alleged to have hijacked the identities of other people, some dead, to make false claims at taxpayers' expense.

Prosecutor Sir Derek Spencer QC alleged they had carried out "wholesale abuse" of the benefits system along with three other defendants who plundered more than £71,000 between them. He said the defendants "invented" disabled children and "hijacked" the IDs of people to make claims.

He added: "This is not a case about errors and mistakes or miscalculation of benefit. It is about wholesale dishonesty resulting in taxpayers' money being paid out in large sums." Connolly was said to be the leader of the alleged scam.

Police raided her home in Southend, Essex, in December 2004 and seized paperwork, Basildon Crown Court heard. She was arrested along with her father and Julie Turner, 43, Beverley Thaws, 46, and Patricia Brown, 67.

Brown, who is said to drive a car with a personalised number plate, is alleged to have creamed off more than £40,000.

Thaws is said to have pocketed £15,374 and Turner £16,020.

The alleged plot is said to involve Child Tax and Working Tax credits - supposed to help Britain's poorest families and workers on low incomes.

Sir Derek said the alleged fake claims had similarities which led back to Connolly. He said: "The fact they all allegedly claimed to be working 16 hours a week is one of many common threads that feature in these claims. It cannot be a coincidence. This suggests there was someone behind all these claims. That person was Donna Connolly."

Connolly denies 13 charges of benefit fraud and two of money laundering. Taylor, Thaws and Turner all deny charges of benefit fraud and money laundering. Brown denies benefit fraud.

All live in Southend except Turner who comes from nearby Westcliff. The trial is set to end at Christmas.

Jamie, 18, has already auditioned for the BBC soap and sources say the good looking teenager wowed producers. An insider said: "He came across as a thoroughly convincing actor.

"The decision now needs to be taken about whether future plot lines can accommodate talent like Jamie. "But all the signs are good - he's definitely a star of the future." And Jamie said: "I met the head of casting three weeks ago and read some scripts with him. He introduced me to one of the producers and we had a chat. "It all went really well. All I can do now is wait and see."
Jamie was just 16 when Rob, 18, was stabbed to death protecting him from a knife man in Sidcup, south-east London. Rob had just finished filming Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince with Michael Gambon.

Jamie has since made a movie of his own called Cold Kiss - playing a blade-wielding lout. It's due out next year and also stars anti-knife campaigner Ray Winstone. Jamie said: "Many of the scenes really upset me. But if it encourages one person to put down a knife then it's worth it."

The performance inside the St Laurence O'Toole Church in Dublin was relayed on loud speakers to over 3,500 mourners who had lined the streets outside.

The four remaining members - RONAN KEATING, KEITH DUFFY, MIKEY GRAHAM and SHANE LYNCH - sang In This Life, a song written by Keating. They performed one more song, Happiness, which followed an emotional eulogy containing humour as well as tearful moments. DUFFY described Gately as the band's "little brother" whom they would always protect. He told his former bandmate's civil partner ANDREW COWLES he now has "four new brothers" and the star's parents MARTIN and MARGARET have "four new sons", adding they should expect an expensive Christmas now they've got "eight new grandchildren".

Graham praised Gately, whom they called Steo, for bringing "colour to the band" and the band "felt black and white without him".

Last night shocked former friend Patricia Gilbery said: "When I think about what may have happened to those poor kids it makes me sick to my stomach.

It remains unclear whether the children George cared for at home were abused but Patricia, 55, said: "I'm convinced terrible things happened to those children in that house.

"If there is evidence that she abused those children, I know who they are and will do everything I can to help the police and the parents."

George - who took photos of herself sexually molesting the infants at the nursery in Plymouth and then emailed them to fellow perverts Colin Blanchard, 38, and Angela Allen, 39 - started to privately care for children from the nursery in March last year when it was closed on a Thursday. Despite being an unregistered child minder, several parents willingly gave their children to her to look after, unaware of her depraved secret life.

George was paid £4.50 an hour to look after up to five children aged between 12 months and three years.

Patricia, who met George in 2003, also cared for four of the children before and after school hours and would drop off and collect the children from George's house on those days.

Thousands of tattoo artists, piercing experts, fashion designers and body art fans from around the globe have descended on the capital for an annual convention.

The fifth outing of the London International Tattoo Convention is considered one of the main events in the European tattoo circuit. Fans queued round the block for over an hour to gain entry to the convention's new location at the Victorian Tobacco Dock in London's East End. And once the doors opened on Friday morning, it was down to serious business.

Hot on the heels of the 25th anniversary of London Fashion Week this is being hailed by the organisers as the next big cultural event of the season.

The 2009 convention bills itself as a celebration of an "alternative lifestyle". But nowadays more people seem to have a tattoo than not - ask around your office or friends, you would be surprised.

However, it still a bit of a leap from that drunken and well-hidden tattoo acquired as student to a wrist-to-shoulder job - the "sleeve".

Boris Johnson was joined by cycling gold-medallist Chris Hoy and model Kelly Brook as he led more than 65,000 cyclists on a mass “Skyride” past some of the capital's most famous landmarks.

Many of the riders got into the spirit of the event, including one in an old-fashioned policeman's outfit and others seemingly hoping for some wind assistance sporting huge sails.

During the first round, Katie held her handbag over her face as Mason - with the crowd chanting his name - landed blows to Reid's face and left him badly cut above an eye.

During the second round the fighters kneed each other.

But in the final round, Reid landing a few blows and the judges gave him the verdict.
Asked whether Jordan was engaged, pal Michelle laughed: "Not that I'm aware of. No, she's not engaged."

His mother Mary and brother Lewis were helped by friends of the 22-year-old as they set about removing his stuff from the flat. It was reported last month that he was being evicted after holding a string of hellraising bashes there. Legends gather for Children in Need

His dulcet tones may be leaving the breakfast airwaves but Sir Terry Wogan was using them today to help record a charity version of a Beatles classic.

The broadcaster joined stars including Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason and former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman at London’s world-famous Abbey Road studios to lay down tracks for an album raising money for Children In Need. The “supergroup” came together to perform a version of All You Need Is Love, which will be used on the forthcoming Bandaged Together album.

The project has been organised by Terry Wogan fans known as The TOGs (Terry’s Old Geezers and Gals). Sir Terry said: “Last year thanks to the TOGs we raised about £3 million for Children In Need. We had Bandaged One which sold an awful lot and made hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity. “The idea this year is Bandaged Two and we are hoping to raise even more money.”

Sir Terry also performed with the Irish singer Finbar Furey on a version of The Fields of Athenry for the album. He said: “The singing was brilliant but I was held up by these professional musicians.” Hellen Bach from the TOGs explained: “Stars are giving us their time and their talent. We are eternally grateful as are the children who will benefit from their efforts. “We were delighted with the reaction to last year’s release and we thought we should try and go one better this time around.”

Some of the world’s biggest and most influential bands have recorded at the Abbey Road studios including the Beatles and Pink Floyd. Pink Floyd manager Mr Mason said there was always a special atmosphere attached to the studios. He explained: “In terms of musical importance this place would rank somewhere between Hampton Court and the Houses of Parliament.
“The greats have all been here and the place just exudes atmosphere. “I was lucky enough to see the Beatles recording here and it was literally like watching royalty.”

The album, which also includes tracks by the singer Aled Jones and others will be released next month.

Last year’s race down the Thames set a Guinness World Record, with 175,000 bobbing down the river towards the finish line.

Shanghai smashed the record by 25,000 in May so organisers were keen to get their title back for the world’s largest plastic duck race which they did with over 200,000!

The agreement is a victory for Gordon Brown and chancellor Alistair Darling who have been resisting calls, led by France, to cap bonuses, claiming they were unenforceable.

Tweed remanded in custody

Reality TV star Jade Goody's widower Jack Tweed has been remanded in custody until September on a rape charge, a court heard today.

The 22-year-old, who wore a blue hooded top, spoke only to confirm his name, address and date of birth at Redbridge Magistrates' Court.

He was taken into custody until September 21 when he will appear at Snaresbrook Crown Court, the Press Association reported.

Earlier the Metropolitan Police said Tweed had been charged with one count of rape in connection with an incident in the early hours of Friday. The court heard how the suspected offence took place at Tweed's home in Woodford Green, east London. Police arrested Tweed and another man in his twenties on Friday after a teenage woman reported she had been sexually assaulted. The second man has been bailed.

Officers investigating the alleged rape said in a statement they had arrested a third person, aged 25, on Friday night. He is being held at an east London police station.

Tweed's mother Mary along with his brother Paul were in court for the short hearing.

Boris launches 'low carbon zones'

Mayor of London Boris Johnson has announced 10 areas of the capital that will become low carbon zones.

Barking Town Centre, Muswell Hill, Archway, Brixton, Lewisham Town Centre, Wandle Valley, Ham and Petersham, Peckham, Hackbridge and Queen’s Park will benefit from the mayor’s funding.

The 10 winning boroughs will be awarded at least £200,000 each to pioneer energy-busting measures in their chosen low carbon zones. The zones, which have a target to deliver 20.12 per cent of carbon emissions savings by 2012, will cover more than 13,000 residential properties, about 1,000 shops and businesses, 20 schools and a hospital – as well as places of worship and community centres.

Mr Johnson said: “I am delighted to unveil the top carbon-busting neighbourhoods in London. There was a high calibre of bids from across the boroughs and it was a difficult choice, but the winning entries are championing the latest technologies, which will help us to become a leading low carbon city.”

Chart-topping teen Pixie told me: "I got asked to write for Simon when I was more focussed on being an artist and I didn't have any time.

"But now I've pitched hundreds of songs and they've gone to other people. A couple of days ago I found out one is on Alexandra's album. I wrote it and sang it on a demo so she could learn it from my voice. It's called You Broke My Heart.

"I knew she had recorded it but now it's confirmed it is on the album, which is out next month. Simon listened to thousands of songs and it made it. When I heard it was going on I was over the moon."

Pixie's latest single 'Boys & Girls' is out on Monday.

Notting Hill Carnival ends in carnage

A young man lies seriously injured in the middle of the road in Ladbroke Grove at 11.15 tonight in a shocking image of sickening violence which marred the end of the 2009 Notting Hill Carnival.

In a weekend which saw 200 arrests, a 15 year old male was tonight in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed as scenes reminiscent of the 1970's returned to West London.

Londoners let hair down at Europe's biggest street party

Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets of west London on Monday for the annual Notting Hill Carnival, a celebration of Caribbean culture that has become Europe's biggest street party.

Police estimated about 220,000 people turned up to dance, drink and eat jerk chicken on Sunday for the first of two days of partying, which passed off peacefully despite a string of arrests for low-level offences.

Even more were expected to turn out on Monday to see brightly coloured floats and exoticly-dressed dancers parade through the streets to the sounds of traditional steel drums and dozens of sound systems pumping music.

Carnival began the 1950s in response to deteriorating race relations. Since 1964, it has been held in Notting Hill, giving London's Afro-Caribbean communities a platform to celebrate their culture and traditions.

The event was marred by race riots in the past but in recent years has been viewed as a showcase for the British capital's mix of cultures.

There has been some opposition from local residents, but for most people, carnival -- held on a bank holiday weekend every August -- is a chance to let their hair down in one enormous free party.

Police maintain a visible presence, in particular to clamp down on anyone carrying knives or guns. By early on Monday, 76 people had been arrested, the majority for possession of drugs.

Why was gran left to rot?

Proud gran Margaret Smith looked good for her 93 years as she went into a five-star care home to give her family a respite break.

But when Margaret - born in one world war and married in the next - returned home a week later she was virtually dead. She had severe dehydration, a chest infection, pneumonia, a collapsed lung and had suffered a major stroke.

Her shocked granddaughter Tracey Blackwood and daughter Phyllis say they had to force open her lips to give her fluids. Margaret was taken to hospital where, according to her family, the A&E doctor estimated she had not drunk for four to five days. A consultant said she had not eaten for several days. Margaret died two days later.

Now social services chiefs have launched an investigation into the pensioner's stay at the home where, her family suspect, she was put in a room and simply left to rot. Tracey, 44, said: "According to the home she was in good health when she left them. Yet half an hour later when Gran arrived home she was half-dead.

"She was paralysed down one side and unable to utter a word. "Yet the home told us that she had a cup of tea just before she left and had verbally thanked staff for looking after her and waved goodbye. "We find that an incredible statement to make. It was clear she hadn't drunk for some considerable time, couldn't speak and she was in no state to wave to anyone when she got to us." Ashton Lodge care home at Sunbury-on-Thames in Surrey had been carefully chosen by the family from an approved list given by London's Richmond council last July.

Michael Jackson tributes on his birthday

HUNDREDS of thousands of people across the world joined a mass tribute to Michael Jackson on what would have been his 51st birthday.

Fans on every continent danced the moves to the 1982 hit Thriller dressed in sequinned jackets, white gloves and fedoras.

In London, Trafalgar Square was crammed with people who attended a memorial dance set up through Facebook.

Organiser Ilana Lorraine, 30, from north London, said: “It all came together and it was incredible. The place was full of people.”

Greyhound bit off my nose but I look better than ever!

Former model Princess Goodwin stared in horror in the bathroom mirror after her greyhound Olli bit her as she lay asleep.

Princess, 51, who thought her pet had just given her a playful nip, didn't recognise the mangled image staring back at her. The mum of two's face was ripped to shreds and there was a gaping hole where her nose had been. Holding the fleshy remains of her nose in her hands, Princess feared her former model looks were gone forever.

But a year later, after seven operations to create a new nose from the skin and cartilage of her ears and forehead, she thinks her new face is BETTER than the old one. Speaking exclusively to the People, Princess said: "I'm incredulous, exhilarated and stunned by what the amazing surgeons have done.

"My face is back to what it was before the accident. In fact, I like it better than before."

Alex Reid - Cage Fighter

Alex Reid got away from Katie Price today and actually did some proper training.

The 34 year old Cage Fighter was in Woking preparing for his September 19th Ultimate Challenge MMA fight with Jack Mason at the Troxy in East London.

Alex worked out for over an hour and made light work of his sparring partners, actually knocking one out! It did come at a price though, Alex lost a toenail in the encounter!

Big Brother Magazine launched

GOSSIP loving Lisa Wallace was left upset after she could find barely any mention of herself in a set of magazines.

Big Brother gave the housemates a stash of glossy magazines yesterday as part of their task.

They were given two hours to come up with a magazine of their own and were given the articles for research.

"I love magazines," butch Lisa said as they arrived. "This is brilliant."

She quickly thumbed through features on Freddie Fisher, Bea Hamill, Karly Ashworth and Kenneth Tong, but missed any mention of her own name.

"Bea, it's all about you. Is there nothing about me?" the 41-year-old wailed. "You've only been here five weeks. I've been in eleven."

But she soon cheered up when she got back to reading the celebrity news.

"Ooh thank you Big Brother for the magazines. I know they've upset a few housemates but I'm over the moon," she said.

The housemates finally finished their Big Brother Magazine and celebrated with a launch party yesterday evening.

After editor Marcus Akin picked up the first edition, Lisa wondered if the show's bosses would be distributing it for real.

Window fitter Marcus was so proud of his work he figured it would make a fortune.

"If they sold that for charity at 50p, they made f***loads", he said.

He added: "That f****** magazine is hilarious. We had such a good laugh making it as well. It was a right laugh all day. This was definitely one of my favourite days in the house."

Film fan becomes centre of attention

A FILM fan who is competing in the Great North Run dressed as one of his movie idols has become the star attraction.

Dennis Hewitt climbed atop an empty plinth in London’s Trafalgar Square as part of Angel of the North sculptor Antony Gormley’s One and Other art project on Wednesday.

The project, which started in June, involves a different person taking their place on the plinth every hour, 24 hours a day, for 100 days.

Dennis, 50, from Birtley, a film extra, used his hour to tell people about his experience of running every Great North Run since it began, and of his support of St Oswald’s Hospice in Gosforth, Newcastle. He wore all 28 Great North Run T-shirts, taking them off one by one while telling stories of each run and speaking of significant dates in the history of St Oswald’s.

Panesar dropped for final Ashes Test

England have won the toss and will bat first in the decisive fifth Ashes Test at The Oval.

With the series level at 1-1, England's captain, Andrew Strauss, announced that Graham Onions would make way for Andrew Flintoff with Monty Panesar and Ryan Sidebottom also missing out.

Strauss said he was happy that his team will bat first. "It's what we wanted to do – the wicket looks like a good one to bat on so we've got the opportunity to put a good score on the board. We thought about playing Panesar but we didn't think it would turn too much here."

Jonathan Trott will make his Test debut at No5, with Paul Collingwood moving to No4 and Ian Bell to No3.

Australia have named an unchanged side with Ricky Ponting resisting the temptation to select the specialist spinner Nathan Hauritz.

"The surface looks reasonably dry so our fast bowlers will have to do well early on," said the Australian captain. "We've gone with the four-man pace attack so hopefully our part-time spinners can do well for us here."

Pixie Lott loves the garden

Pixie Lott has revealed that she enjoys playing in washing-up liquid in the garden.

The 'Mama Do' singer said that her parents still turn the garden into a soapy waterslide for her and her friends to play on.

She told The Guardian: "When I think of summer I think of us all getting together at family barbecues, having a water fight. When we're at my mum's we play on an aquaslide with fairy liquid, which ruins the grass."

The 18-year-old, who still lives with her parents, added that she uses the garden as inspiration for her songwriting, saying: "If I'm really happy or upset, then that's when I want to write a song, so I'll go to the bottom of the garden and write down my feelings - you get the best lyrics when you are in the emotion of the moment."

She also revealed that she hopes to move out soon so that she can go out dancing without getting in trouble.

Gordon Ramsay's brother is Big Issue seller!

This is the troubled brother of multi-millionaire chef Gordon Ramsay – selling the Big Issue on a busy high street.

Homeless Ronnie Ramsay, 41, looked scruffy and unrecognisable from his famous sibling as he sold the £1.50 magazine. It is the first time the heroin addict has been pictured since returning from Indonesia, where he was jailed in 2007 for possessing the drug. Ronnie, in Plymouth in Devon, said his family have 'wiped their hands' of him. 'I'm down on my luck and this is all I can do to get by,' he added.

The chef, 42, has revealed trying to support and change his brother is 'the one thing I feel I've failed at'.
